Published in: 2023

Date read: 3rd March 2026

Score: 4/5

Genre: Science fiction, Horror

Plot: (Warning, may contain spoilers):
Published in 2023, this novel is a direct sequel to the films Aliens and Alien 3. It delves into the legacy and "consciousness" of the beloved synthetic, Bishop, while exploring the dark corporate machinations of Weyland-Yutani.

The Plot:
The story begins after the events on Fiorina 161 (Alien 3). The wreckage of the Sulaco escape pod has been recovered, and with it, the shattered, deactivated remains of the android Bishop.

Michael Bishop (the human creator who appeared at the end of Alien 3) is obsessed with retrieving the data stored in the synthetic's mind. He believes Bishop's memory logs contain the key to finally capturing a living Xenomorph and understanding the "perfect organism." However, Bishop’s neural link is damaged, and his "personality" is fragmented, leading to a philosophical and physical battle over what remains of his soul.

Key Characters:
• Bishop: The damaged synthetic who must navigate his own failing memories while deciding if he owes loyalty to his creators or the humanity he was designed to protect.

• Michael Bishop: The cold, calculating human designer who claims to be Bishop's "father" but views him purely as a corporate asset.
• Marcel: A newer, more advanced synthetic model who acts as a foil to Bishop, representing the future of Weyland-Yutani's cold efficiency.
• Captain Golic: A survivor with his own trauma, caught in the crossfire of the corporate pursuit.

The Resolution:
The novel moves from corporate boardrooms to high-stakes action as Bishop is partially "reawakened." He realizes that his data is a death sentence for humanity if Weyland-Yutani gets it.

In a tense finale, Bishop chooses to sabotage the data retrieval. He outmanoeuvres Michael Bishop and the newer synthetic models, ultimately ensuring that the secrets of the Xenomorph remain buried. The book ends with a poignant reflection on what it means to be "human," as Bishop proves his humanity through self-sacrifice and his refusal to be a pawn in a galactic arms race.

Comments:
As always, i was nervous about accessing a new author and I was not disappointed. Last year, I read Alien: Cold Forge" and loved it which opened up another source of Sci-Fi books to me. This book is fast paced and you are certainly not let down. I was worried during the opening parts that there was not going to be enough action with the Xenomorphs, I was not let down. I was also very impressed by the links between this book and the characters in both Aliens and Alien 3.
