About the author:
T. R. Napper (also known as Tim Napper) is a multi-award-winning Australian science fiction and noir author, best known for his contributions to the cyberpunk genre. Before transitioning into full-time writing in his mid-thirties, Napper had a distinguished career as a diplomat and humanitarian aid worker, spending over a decade delivering aid programs throughout Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar.

Academic and Professional Background:
Napper is often referred to as a "Doctor of Cyberpunk," a title stemming from his Creative Writing Doctorate. His doctoral thesis, titled The Dark Century 1946–2046: Noir, Cyberpunk, and Asian Modernity, explored the intersections of tech-noir traditions across Australia, Japan, Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

His years living in the Old Quarter of Hanoi deeply influenced his literary style and settings, providing a grounded, lived-in realism to his speculative worlds.

Notable Works:
Napper’s writing is characterised by its "hard-boiled" perspective, focusing on marginalised characters, corporate corruption, and the preservation of humanity in dehumanising systems.
• 36 Streets (2022): His debut novel, a cyberpunk thriller set in Chinese-occupied Hanoi. It won both the Aurealis Award for Best Science Fiction Novel and the Ditmar Award for Best Novel.
• Neon Leviathan (2020): A critically acclaimed collection of short stories that established his reputation in the "Grimdark" and cyberpunk communities.

Currently based in Australia, Napper balances his writing with unique community work. He is a professional Dungeon Master, running tabletop role-playing campaigns for young people with autism through a local charity. Outside of literature and gaming, he has a background as a semi-professional poker player and has received a commendation from the Government of Laos for his humanitarian work with the poor.
