"Twilight," published in 2005, is the first novel in Stephenie Meyer's immensely popular fantasy romance series. It introduces a world where vampires and werewolves secretly coexist with humans, focusing on a dangerous and passionate love story.

The story is narrated by Isabella "Bella" Swan, a seemingly ordinary, somewhat clumsy seventeen-year-old girl. She makes the reluctant decision to move from sunny Phoenix, Arizona, to the perpetually overcast and rainy town of Forks, Washington, to live with her divorced father, Charlie, the town's police chief.

Bella's life in Forks begins unremarkably, but it takes a dramatic turn when she encounters the enigmatic Cullen family at her new high school. They are strikingly beautiful, unnaturally pale, and possess an ethereal grace, setting them apart from everyone else. Bella is particularly drawn to Edward Cullen, a dazzlingly handsome and intensely private boy who initially seems to despise her.

However, Edward's initial hostility soon gives way to a complex and undeniable fascination. Bella quickly discovers his incredible speed, strength, and the chilling coldness of his skin. Through a series of near-fatal incidents where Edward impossibly saves her life, Bella confronts the truth: Edward and his family are vampires.

Unlike the monstrous vampires of folklore, the Cullens are "vegetarian" vampires, choosing to feed on animal blood rather than human blood. Despite their efforts to live peacefully, their very nature makes their existence a constant struggle against their predatory instincts. Edward's control over his thirst for Bella's blood, which he finds particularly alluring, forms a central tension of their relationship.

Their romance blossoms, intensely and dangerously, as Bella grapples with the implications of loving a creature who is immortal, supernaturally powerful, and inherently deadly. She is drawn to his mysterious world, his family's unique dynamics, and the thrilling danger he represents.

The calm of their budding relationship is shattered by the arrival of a trio of nomadic vampires: the sadistic tracker James, his mate Victoria, and Laurent. James, intrigued by Edward's protective devotion to Bella, decides to hunt her for sport, pushing Edward and his family to use all their abilities to protect her.

The climax involves a desperate chase and a brutal confrontation between the Cullens and James, with Bella's life hanging precariously in the balance. Edward is forced to use his full vampiric strength to save her, leading to injuries that reveal the perilous reality of her chosen path. "Twilight" is a tale of forbidden love, supernatural secrets, and the thrilling allure of a dangerous, immortal world.

Comments:
I had to have a go with these books after all of the hype and I was pleasantly pleased. I do love a vampire story and it works well. I have seen the first film in the series and it was good, I have not tried any of the other films despite reading all of the books.
